“Can you hear me now ?”

I used to think that it would be obvious how important good sound systems are to Live and Silent auctions. However, experience has shown me that often this is not so obvious. Indeed, sometimes organizers skimp on the cost of sound systems at auctions, without appreicating how much money it could cost them in lost bids.

My personal solution to this dilema is easy. I always test the “in house” sound systems on my first planning visit to a venue. If the in house system is good enough for an auction, fine. If not, I find out if there will be a band or DJ who I already know has a great sound system will be performing at the event. If not, then I will usually bring my own systems – TWO systems, one for the Live and one for the Silent. Beware of employing any auctioneer who is not prepared to bring their own high end sound systems. All good auctioners know that the sound system is a vital part of their performance.
